Shortening your watch with a screwdriver
To shorten watches with a screwdriver, a set is included with your watch, so you can shorten it immediately. Below you will find the steps to shorten your watch:
Place a screwdriver on each side of the link.
Hold still the screwdriver on one side and turn the other screwdriver counterclockwise. This way the screw in the pin loosens.
You do this for any number of links that you want to remove. The most beautiful, of course, is to remove two links. One from either side of the strap.
Reseating the screw is done by sticking a screwdriver on both sides. Hold still the screwdriver on one side and turn the other screwdriver clockwise. Tighten the screws firmly.
If the links do not move smoothly because you have tightened your screws firmly, then you should wear it for one day and you will find that it will work better all by itself. Watch shortening with a firing pin
Shortening your watch with a firing pin is simple when the firing pin is put in from the right side. The pin that you want to remove has one broader side which keeps it in place in the strap link. To remove the pin, you should not select the widened side of the pin to tap on. Tapping the broader side into the link could cause the wood to split by the high pressure of the pin.
When you position the watch in front of you it is easier to remove pin from the lefthand side. Normally, the pin should be taken out from this side. However, you may want to check before tapping it, considering everything explained above. To check this look at the pin, which might or might not be sticking out from either one side. Then you can see if this is a smooth side or the broadened side. When see a smooth side, push the firing pin back and remove it from the other side. When you see a widened part, then you can proceed tapping the pin. The pins are always positioned in the same direction along one side. We are working on a way to indicate the correct side to remove the pin by means of a small dash/arrow on the back of the link. This way, we would make it even easier for you.
Safety wise we recommend removing the pin with a small hammer. Use the hammer to tap on the firing pin in order to easily remove the pins. For questions about shortening your wooden watch you can contact us via our email address or contact form both of which can be found on the contact page.
